Aleksei K. Sokolov	
          1922-2001
          Sokolov studied with Grabar and Oreshraikov at the Repin. From 1952-1968
            he taught monumental painting at the Mukhiva School of Art.
          In 1960 and 1961, he took a sabbatical to Paris. There he sold two landscapes
        in the exhibit Picasso organized to support orphans of the Spanish War. 
      In 1968, he began
          teaching in the monumental painting department at the Repin. He was
          dean of the painting department from 1978-1983.
          Sokolov was awarded the title Personage of Art by the Ministry of
            Culture. He was also awarded Meritorious Art Worker of the Russian
            Federation, Honored
          Artist of Russian and Order of Merit for the Country, Class II.
      He
            has numerous works in museum collections across Russia and the City
          Museum of Peking, China.
      His works are in
