We feel this work is one of the finest paintings of the Social Realist Period. This dynamic depiction captures the spirit of youthful competitive enthusiasm.
The painting brings forth the personalities of the young men and women, and even the competitive nature of the horses pulling the troika. When this work was painted in 1961, Russia was locked in a two-nation space race that would determine world technology leadership.
This painting hung in the Ramon Theater (South of Moscow) for years before it was returned to the artist.
